There are several "unofficial" versions of WhatsApp which, however, offer better options for users, although downloading them could create a major problem.

Currently, WhatsApp is the leader of instant messaging apps with more than two billion registered users, and a recent study places Meta's social network in the fifth place of the most downloaded applications in 2022, in addition, Telegram, WhatsApp's competitor, has more than 700 million users.

WhatsApp users could see their account cancelled forever in case they download some of the "unofficial" versions of the instant messaging platform.

Without a doubt, social networks have changed the way in which people communicate with each other on a daily basis, providing a much more immediate and effective way, and with a much greater reach.

In that sense, since its launch in 2009, WhatsApp has positioned itself in the taste of users, in such a way that, at present, it has become the most used instant messaging service worldwide.

WhatsApp

In 2020, the year of the pandemic, the social network owned by Meta (formerly Facebook) surpassed two billion users globally. This means that of the approximately 7.8 billion inhabitants of the planet, more than two billion use the WhatsApp messaging service at least once a month.

While it is true that it is the leading platform in its field, reality dictates that its competition is also gaining widespread popularity.

The case of Telegram is the most recognized, the social network that in June this year reached 700 million registered users, according to what it said in a statement.

On the other hand, information from Sensor Tower reveals that, at present, WhatsApp occupies the fourth position in the ranking of the most downloaded apps so far in 2022.

In total, as expressed by the Q2 2022: Store Intelligence Data Digest study, 35 billion mobile apps have been downloaded on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

For having "unofficial" versions of WhatsApp, Meta could cancel your account

Over the years, WhatsApp has not stopped updating in order to reach a wider audience; however, "unofficial" versions of the application are also part of the offer in the market, which has started to be a serious problem for Meta.

Thus, in order to curb the spread of these platforms, Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp and other social networks, has decided to take strong actions against users who download such "unofficial" versions.

The idea is that WhatsApp users could have their account terminated if they download apps such as WhatsApp Plus, GB WhatsApp, Fouad WhatsApp, OBWhatsApp or other similar versions.

Undoubtedly, competition in the social network market is becoming increasingly broad, and WhatsApp has begun to decline a bit in popularity, since Telegram offers various alternatives for users, such as its recently launched paid version, which is indeed official.
