FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE, A WAY TO GET RIPPED OFF.

A Twitter user recounted her experience using Facebook Marketplace and how they tried to steal her merchandise.

Some buyers and sellers prefer to transact through social media sales groups.

The Facebook Marketplace presents different advantages for both parties, however, it seems that the disadvantages are more important during transactions.

Advantages of Using Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is one of the most widely used sales spaces in Mexico, however, some sellers (and even buyers) use it to scam and/or steal merchandise.

Among the advantages of using this social network as a sales site is that, for example, you do not have to pay commissions as if it happens in sales sites such as Mercado Libre, a fact that undoubtedly increases the price of some products.

On the other hand, you don't necessarily have to commit to a purchase to obtain information, but simply send a message to the seller and ask for the product you are interested in.

Among the disadvantages is not knowing if you are really buying the advertised product and, although this is recurrent on other sites, Facebook is not responsible for such a scam and the only thing left to do in such situations is to report the seller.

There is also a big disadvantage, no shipping guarantee.

This point is so important in 2022 because connectivity makes it possible to exchange messages with people all over the world, but there is no courier company to make sure that the goods will arrive at your home once you have deposited the money you have been asked for.

However, and although it may seem uncommon, it is not only sellers who can swindle buyers, but there are even operations where buyers swindle sellers in such a credible way that it is too late afterwards.
